The City of Dayton's free Film Permit is required to begin the process of conducting film production work in the city. However, depending on the types of location-shooting activities you will be engaged in, other City permits or service fees may be required.
Below are some of the more common permits or approvals you may need in advance of production. The City of Dayton's "film and screen team" (FAST) can also assist in this effort. Just call 937-333-3812 or e-mail Keith Klein in the Office of Economic Development.
Street Privilege Permits (Civil Engineering)
The Division of Civil Engineering may issue permits for sidewalk and street closures, or any work performed in the public right of way. Customary fees will apply. Street closures must conform to state standards and specifications. For more information, contact Keith Steeber at (937) 333-3838.

Traffic Control & Crowd Control (Police Department)
The Dayton Police Department may assist with traffic control and/or crowd control for your Dayton film production. Barricades & Special Event Rental (Street Maintenance)
Barricades, portable stages, and other equipment may be available for a fee. Reservations can be made by telephone at (937) 333-6463 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Customary fees will apply.

Open Burning & Pyrotechnics (Fire Department)
Open burning, flame effects, pyrotechnics, and smoke effects require a separate permit from the Dayton Fire Department. For more information, contact the City of Dayton Fire Marshall at (937) 333-4500.

Building Permits, Electrical Permits, & Tent Permits (Building Services)
The Division of Building Inspection is responsible for the enforcement of building construction codes. The division examines plans, issues construction permits and inspects commercial and residential structures. The division is also responsible for issuing tent permits.
