Operations Support Division

Major Christopher M. Malson is the Commander of the Operations Support Division.  He graduated from Stebbins High School and joined the Dayton Police Department in 2001.

After graduating the Dayton Police Academy, he worked as a patrol officer in both the East and West Patrol Operations Divisions.  He was appointed to the Special Weapons and Tactics team in 2004, serving in every capacity on the team to include the commander.  He is currently the incident commander for the Dayton Police Department, overseeing the operations of the SWAT team and the Hostage Negotiations Team.

While assigned to patrol operations, he was one of the original Phoenix officers, tasked with community-based policing around the Good Samaritan hospital area.  During this time, he also started instructing at the Dayton Police Academy, as well as teaching nationally and internationally police tactics to new officers.

In January of 2013, he was promoted to Sergeant and assigned as the East Patrol Operations Division as a Patrol Supervisor and later to the Training Academy as the Training Supervisor.

In June of 2017, he was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned as a Night Watch Commander in the East Patrol Operations Division.  In June of 2018, he was assigned to the Training Academy as the Commander and in charge of all departmental related training.

In March of 2019, he was promoted to the rank of Major and assigned as the West Patrol Operations Division Commander.

Major Malson earned a bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Sienna Heights University and is a graduated from the Law Enforcement Foundations Supervisor training and Education Program (STEP). He is also a member of the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) and the International Law Enforcement Education Association (ILEETA).
