Towed Vehicle Information
Vehicles towed by the Dayton Police Department for safekeeping after an automobile accident or for other non-crime related matters may be recovered by the registered owner at Sandy's Towing located at 1541 South Broadway Street, Dayton, Ohio 45417.
Vehicles towed by the Dayton Police Department for crime related issues require a release from the Dayton Police Department Auto Recovery Unit, located in the Safety Building, 335 West Third Street, Dayton, Ohio 45402, prior to recovering the vehicle.

In all instances, the registered owner or designee must provide the following documentation to recover a motor vehicle:
If the registered owner is unable to pick up the vehicle in person, vehicles may be released to the owner’s designee, as long as they provide the following:
If a registered owner is deceased, the vehicle may be released after the title has been transferred to the new owner. For information about transferring a title, please visit the BMV’s website for “BMV Form 3705” or call your local Bureau of Motor Vehicles. The vehicle may also be released with information requested by Auto Recovery on a one-on-one basis by calling 937-333-1058.

Vehicle Release
In all instances, the registered owner or designee must provide the following documentation to recover a motor vehicle:
- A clear title, registration, or certificate of memorandum title
- A bill of sale may be used if the vehicle was purchased within the past 30 days
- If the vehicle is leased, the lease agreement or a current registration is acceptable in lieu of a title
- Photo identification
Designee
If the registered owner is unable to pick up the vehicle in person, vehicles may be released to the owner’s designee, as long as they provide the following:
- A notarized statement signed by the owner, authorizing Auto Recovery to release the vehicle to the designee
- A copy of the title, registration, or memorandum title
- Photo identification (of the designee)
Deceased Owner
If a registered owner is deceased, the vehicle may be released after the title has been transferred to the new owner. - Saturday, please phone before arrival for hours and Sunday call 937-333-1214 (8am to 12pm)
