In 2016, the City of Dayton received its renewed National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit from the Ohio EPA for the authorization to discharge treated wastewater from the City’s Water Reclamation Facility to the Great Miami River. As a condition of the permit, Industrial Local Limits have to be redeveloped for pollutants of concern, to ensure that they remain protective of the health and safety of workers; protective of the Water Reclamation Facility; and to ensure that pollutants do not accumulate in biosolids. Although Local Limits are primarily used to control metal pollutants in industrial wastewater discharges, they apply to all wastewater that discharges to the City of Dayton’s Water Reclamation Facilities.
