[ARCHIVED] Local Innovation Shines at Confluence Tech Showcase

Our Department of Water personnel convened with regional peers and colleagues at today's Confluence Tech Showcase in Covington, Kentucky. In addition to displaying our latest news and developments at an event booth, the water staff got to show off innovative technology that keeps water quality in our region pristine.

During this morning's session, Michele Simmons (Manager of the Division of Environmental Management) shared insights into our VGC-developed process for automated, real-time micro-gas chromatography analysis for Volatile Organic Compounds in groundwater. In laymen's terms, this technology allows us to monitor and make real-time decisions to maximize water quality or remediate groundwater of concern.

Confluence: Water Technology Innovation Cluster of the Ohio River Valley Region connects water professionals in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana to collaboratively establish the region as a global leader in sustainable, environmental technology innovation, with an initial emphasis on water. Ms. Simmons of the Department of Water is a board member of the Confluence network, which allows the Department of Water to collaborate and network with others in the industry.
