Mayor Mims' Teen Youth Summit

Mayor Jeffrey Mims’ first ever youth summit will bring together teen youth from across Dayton high schools to inform, inspire, and empower them as they navigate real-world issues and grow into future leaders.

Students who attend will

  • Hear from a powerful keynote
  • Attend breakout sessions on mental health, purpose, cultural barriers, and self-care
  • Enjoy a light breakfast and catered lunch
  • Explore relevant resource tables
  • Network and socialize with peers across the city
  • Engage directly with Mayor Mims and help inform his work
  • Leave with a 2022 Teen Youth Summit memento

How will students be selected to attend?

Students will be identified and asked to participate by their schools.

Breakout Session Descriptions

Mental Health & Self Care Strategies

This session will emphasize the importance of prioritizing one’s mental health as an adolescent in our society and provide students some key tools and resources for self-care.

Vocation

This session will challenge students to think about what they feel inclined to do with their lives and provide them with insights and examples of how to turn their skills and talents into suitable careers.

Youth Civic Engagement

This session will empower students to become more civically engaged in their lives and community. It will call attention to the personal and professional benefits of developing the skills, values, and habits of public participation. Students who attend this session will be encouraged to recognize that their voices and energies are needed to address societal problems.

Mentorship

This session will highlight the need for mentorship. It will demonstrate the proven impact having a mentor can have on one’s personal growth and development, and social and economic opportunity. Students who attend should be provided resources for ways to connect with a mentor.
