Dayton Fire installs smoke and carbon monoxide detectors free of charge for city of Dayton residents in non-rental properties. If you are a renter and having problems with your landlord, Dayton Fire Prevention staff will contact the owner to install the detectors.

Chapter 92 of the Revised Code of General Ordinances Relating to Fire Prevention:
Sec. 92.111. Applicability.
All new and existing residential, business, assembly, mercantile, factory, licensed child-care, and industrial buildings shall provide fire alarm equipment capable of signaling the presence of a fire or carbon monoxide gas and notifying the occupants in danger of fire or carbon monoxide poisoning. Such protection equipment shall be in accordance with §§ 92.111 to 92.122, inclusive, of this Chapter.
Sec. 92.112. Responsibility.
It shall be the responsibility of the owner of each new and existing building to comply with the provisions of §§ 92.111 to 92.122
