RIDES powered by SOPEC: Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Project
Responsive Interregional Deployment of Electrification Solutions (RIDES) from Southeast to Southwest Ohio
The City of Dayton is partnering with our electrical aggregation program provider, SOPEC (Sustainable Ohio Public Energy Council), to install electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Dayton as part of a federal grant-funded project called RIDES (Responsive Interregional Deployment of Electrification Solutions) in Southeast and Southwest Ohio.
The RIDES project will significantly bolster electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in Ohio to support regional travel and tourism, enhance accessibility for EV users, and expand economic opportunities from Athens to Dayton and beyond.

About RIDES
SOPEC’s Responsive Interregional Deployment of Electrification Solutions (RIDES) project plans to deploy up to 60 new public charging stations between Southeast and Southwest Ohio with $16.7M of federal grant funding from two CFI awards. The RIDES program will significantly bolster electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in Southeast and Southwest Ohio to support regional travel and tourism, enhance accessibility for EV users, and expand economic opportunities from Athens to Dayton and beyond.
About CFI
RIDES is funded by the Charging & Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Program, a $2.5B Federal Discretionary Grant Program funded through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 (IIJA). CFI is administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration (USDOT FHWA). Program funding supports national strategic deployment of alternative fuel infrastructure within communities and along designated Alternative Fuel Corridors (AFCs). CFI focuses on: public access, equity and rural connectivity, and long-term operations and reliability.
